Which of these two VZW phones will get official Jelly Bean OTA update first?
VZW Galaxy Nexus or VZW Galaxy S III?

that's what I thought until today.... Google's own videos at the event
showed their engineering saying there "are many shortcomings with
Ice Cream Sandwich and we took care of them with the latest Jelly
Bean....." They way they said it surely made it sound like ICS is
almost dead/has-been....

The only reason that I believe the Nexus will receive it first because it's vanilla android, the OEM won't need to skin it like they will with the SG3

The nexus will receive it first because its a Google device and the updates always come first to nexus devices

why is this even asked? The GSIII probably wont get it until 2013. Just because samsung makes the nexus doesnt really mean that the rest of their phones will get software updates like a nexus phone, they just produce the phone for google, and google handles the software. The GSIII is made by samsung for samsung and they have a lot of phones they need to develop for. Consider the fact that only now are most phones getting ICS, these are phones that have been on the market for just as long as the nexus, and its taken 6+ months.
