Who is going to DROP their DSL and tether their EVO instead?
You could even take the $30/month savings and add the Hot Spot/WiFi..
I just did a speed test with EasyTether and the EVO is faster than my DSL.

DSL = 1034/377
EVO 3G= 1201/478

You have some pretty terrible DSL there.

Also keep in mind, if you're a gamer, ping times can get pretty erratic.

I only pay 30 a month for cable high speed (7 down and 768 up). Not worth it my opinion. Plus how would I stream movies over LAN without setting my router as an access point etc.

Aka add that the family would be unconnected to the world if I was not home with my evo as a hotspot.

I have cable, so I'm keeping it. If I had no other option but DSL, I would drop it and tether. I have never seen DSL with good speeds anywhere.

Yeah you'd pretty much have to add a second EVO with hotpsot add on and dedicate that to home internet use for it to always be there. Only other option would be to get the Overdrive, but on that if it moves over to 3G you're limited to 5gigs. Second EVO dedicated to wifi hotspot app with the $30 add on + truly unlimited data over 3G and 4G= best bet. But a rather huge ass phone bill, not that practical at all.

Where is my " Hotspot "

Ok here is the situation ... In my place I get very poor cell service and I dont have Internet so I dont have Wi-Fi ... I am thinking about getting the "hotspot" from sprint but wondring where is the "hotspot" pulling from ... If I have piss poor cell service (1 or 2 bars ) how does that affect the "hotspot" ... I dont want to end up paying MORE money for a failed service ... Can someone explain this to me ... Thanks

The hotspot uses a 3G or 4G connection from Sprint and connects other wifi-enabled devices to your phone to share that connection. But yeah I am guessing if you're in an area with spotty coverage that frequently pushes you to roaming on Verizon's network, the hotspot may not work at all or will not be worth getting at all. However if you even get a decent 3G signal, it might be alright.

If your cellular signal sucks it won't magically get better. Just do a speed test on your phone. Whatever the phone gets is what you can expect on the hotspot.

i play a lot of online games, so i cant drop my service for mobile hotspot. now if you dont play online games, stream movies, and no family then mobile hotspot is something you should consider imo.
