Who tried S3 and prefers EVO LTE?

I'm torn between the S3 and EVO LTE. I intially had the EVO LTE then swapped for 32gb S3. I thought i would be more impressed but i'm not. A lot of the threads I've read so far have been preferring the S3 by a wide margin but I don't know why. Below are my issues with S3:

The screen brightness and auto brightness function on the S3 is absolutely TERRIBLE. It is really difficult to enjoy the phone outside on a sunny day. My HTC Arrive is brighter! It bothers me that people have posted that they like the S3 screen better. I have no idea how the heck that is possible.

Camera quality on S3 under low light conditions seems better than EVO. Outside and good lighting, EVO is slightly better. Also, S3 doesn't have 16:9 pics under 8mp setting.

Rear speaker seems a bit louder on S3.

Touchwiz is lame but multitasking is great.

My gripes with EVO deal with multitasking and only having 1gb of ram. I also hate how Sense compresses MMS that are sent/received. I have also been reading about the constant reloading of Sense. How are custom roms progressing for the EVO? I may go back but i'm not sure.

I have never tried the SIII,but prefer the EVO LTE hands down. lol

I haven't tried the SGS3, but I have owned Sammy's in the past and have had nothing but issue after issue. I have read more negative things just here in the past week that reassured me to stick with my HTC Evo4GLTE which I have had for one month and no issues at all. It's quick, camera is truly awesome, beats audio is really cool and sounds wonderful, I love the screen size and the colors are so realistic.:thumbup:;).

been torn between s3 and evo lte and im going to stick with the evo because theres just too much i dont like about the s3(multiple screen issues, touch wiz makes it look like a kids toy, camera lens is sticking out(HTC finally fixed that with the lte), lots of overheating, no kickstand, its a samsung, did i mention touch wiz? lol. i do like the 2gb ram but i have an upgrade next feb so i can live with 1gb ram for another year as i dont do much multitasking and im sure the next evo will have 2gb

but so far ive had the evo lte for about a week and have had no issues other then the multitasking problem and the menu button, which both are a software issue which i hope they fix soon

My biggest problem with touchwiz is that I know exactly what to expect from it....and that's both good and bad I suppose. Sense feels lighter and that's good...but either phone I purchased is destined for CM 9./infinity. So if I'm going to have the same software experience (eventually) I might as well have the superior screen...I considered the extra ram as an advantage...but that doesn't translate to improved performance, in single app scenarios, which I'm looking for in several instances. They're both terrific devices I think it boils down to what ends up being most important to you at the end of the day (some may consider having the ability to have the extra battery more important....for example)

I got the s3 today, gave my girl my evo lte and I miss it.

The evo seems more refined, superior build quality and better screen. With slight tweaks to the camera settings, the camera quality reins superior.

The s3 is growing on me, better battery life and in my opinion and just a tad bit fast than the evo.

both are amazing phones, but if I had too pick, I'd say you get more bang for your buck with the evo.

Maybe my expectations were set too high for this phone due to huge improvements the s2 brought to the game. It was a game changer, and I'd even dare to say those of you who had the gs2 to stay put until the next version with hopes that it can bring more.

I still have 13 days left to return the phone and with my short stint so far, I may lean that direction. One thing that may persuade me to stay is too see the developer support for the s3. Since its similar to across all carriers, a lot of roms will be ported.

To each his own, but I'd encourage those who ask to get an evo, if they needed any second opinions

Issues with EVO are software related which can be fixed (with first update or jelly bean), and I second that S3 screen is not bright enough, and it looks worse when you set it next to EVO..and Evo has great design and Build quality....Sense UI, camera, Kickstand makes EVO my winner..

Why couldn't the EVO just have 2GB & a Wolfson DAC.....

I am do tempted to get the EVO, but something tells me to wait for Motorola, Apple, and a actual Sprint LTE rollout schedule.

I'm a bit confused because hear nothing but praise for the evo's screen. I mean back when the oneX came out, Phil and every reviewer was raving about how it was the best screen in the industry and the image looks like it's floating right on top of the glass and how nothing has ever looked so sharp and clean, etc etc. Now I've had the evo for 3 weeks..and it looks nice and all, but I'm honestly never "impressed" by anything other than just the sheer size and resolution. I've never felt that eye-popping wow factor that I get when looking at HDTV's or even my nice computer monitor. Hell, I honestly get more wow-factor when I turn on my old epic-4G and look at the super amoled screen.

I'm not trying to bash the evo..I swear, I love mine, but I'm trying to understand where everyone is coming from. My colors are pretty accurate I guess (except whites which are kind of yellow), but they're also fairly dull and toned down. I went to a store the other day to play around with a Galaxy S3. The biggest thing that appealed to me was the screen. It was SO bright and eye catching. I held my evo next to it and it looked so sad. My evo was probably half the brightness (maybe they had the display model set to 100%, I don't know, my evo was set on auto brightness, but that S3 was beaming). My colors were nothing compared to that on the S3. It's colors popped like crazy. I navigated around the google play store on both phones to compare, and everything was just so bright and colorful on the S3. My evo looks very "realistic" I guess you could say, but certainly no "pop". The S3 screen definitely looked like it was "floating" on top of the glass. Never got that sensation with my Evo...

I mean...it is a lovely screen, I've just never really noticed anything "that" special about it. I certainly would never hold it next to a S3 and say "oh this is obviously a vastly superior screen"

It's probably because u had on auto brightness and the s3 was at full brightness. I can agree with the reviewers saying the icons looks like they are floating on the screen. If you turn the phone at I certain angle you will see what they are talking about. I'm guessing it's because of the viewing angles

You'll never get the full performance of the screen below 100% brightness (keep mine there all the time apart from when I use it in the dark).
Interestingly enough that's actually always been my biggest problem with AMOLED displays on phones, the colors may pop for icons and similar things, but it's because it's insanely over saturated, all it takes to notice is pulling up a photo or taking a picture. The colors are nowhere near realistic, and personally I can't figure out why so many people like that. It's like if movies went back to filming in Technicolor.

That is strange every review about the screen comparison all came up with the exact opposite of what you experienced.

Trust me.. do not feel bad. It is most likely that the S3 had the display cranked up to 100%. Believe me when I say that the brightness of the S3 is terrible and is no match for the EVO LTE. It is terrible on sunny days. It is way way too dim.

well you just prefer that glossy saturated look that is what i would say....which is cool me personally that is to much it makes me feel like i am looking at a cartoon all day with the s3. The lte gives me true to life

Dude...I'm not trying to be funny, condescending or anything...but you may need glasses. I say this recently having had laser eye corrective surgery...where I thought amoleds were gorgeous before....I have a hard time looking at the gs3 now by comparison. The lack of hard nosed edges (pixilization) and the color temperatures for whites at blue/yellow grades is too much. Without the surgery I'd focused on the contrast pretty heavily...which is pretty amazing on its own on super amoled screens. Now that I can see the whole package, there's not a question in my mind that the GS3 display is in many ways a worse solution than the Galaxy S2's (save for the obvious bump in resolution)...and inferior to the LCD2 solutions on the One X series

All make valid points and keep in mind you are in a EVO thread but like others I prefer my EVO and haven't looked at the SIII. I swore after the none updates with the Epic I would never buy another Samsung phone. I like Samsung every tv and every monitor at my house is Samsung I just refuse to buy another smartphone from them just because of the slow updates. I know I can get up to the minute updates with a Nexus phone but I like HTC always have.

Thanks for the concern..I do have contacts actually. I could plainly see the some pixilation and even the evidence of the screen being pentile on the GS3. Same on my old epic. I actually remember thinking, "I thought all the reviews said to forget the screen being pentile because it wasn't noticeable in HD? I can definitely see it..." In those areas, the evo's screen was certainly more realistic. It's colors simply were not as vivid. I'd say yes, the evo's screen is more "sharp", however I feel like "sharpness" is a relatively irrelevant measure when you're talking about an HD screen in a device that fits in your hand. And in terms of color accuracy, I know SAMOLED screens are known for a "blue-ish" hue on whites, but my evo has had a very distinct yellow/brown hue on whites every since I got it, so it's not exactly like I can say that I'm bragging about it's white accuracy.

However I have always been interested in the thought of laser corrective surgery just to avoid ever having to think about contacts or glasses, so glad to hear it works pretty well!

Very possible. Though I think touchwiz looks incredibly cartoony and awful. I couldn't stand just looking at the homescreens, menus, or icons. I thought they looked so childish and I hated seeing all those bright colors used throughout the settings and stuff. It felt like the phone was patronizing me. The thought of using them made me feel like I was in a play-pin at McDonalds. That's why I was "comparing" in google applications. The high contrast and bright colors on "normal" apps were very pleasing.

I will absolutely say that my Evo is a blessing in sunlight though. I have NEVER had a more readable device when I'm outside.

So, OP, how do you find the phone radio compared to the EVO? Have had several family members with Sammy devices and their reception (bars and call quality) has always been very poor. One of the main reasons I was not even considering the IIIG.

Reception on the s3 is decent. I don't recall having any major reception issues with the EVO but they are both not too good in areas with very poor reception. Maybe this is due to the s4 soc? My htc arrive handles weak reception better. I think the reception on the s3 is slightly worse. Had major problem at the beach yesterday. Data and call issues and brightness issues... Wanted to toss the phone in the ocean. I also noticed my battery life is much worse on my s3! Maybe a defective unit or battery?
