Seems really quiet in here given that Huawei just announced the successor to the P20 Series. Anyone on board for the new model?
Nope! For one the P30 Pro is wiped off my list completely due to its curved display simple as that. P30 OK but we are still more than content with our P20 & Pro seeing very very little reason to upgrade. May reconsider when and if the P40/50 becomes a thing.
True for me too I'm still content with my P20 pro & the battery is still holding out and I've had this phone 9 nearly 10 months.
Given the cost of these devices not a chance. The cameras look really good but no real world reviews of the in glass fingerprint reader and there still seems to be issues with video stabilization, although I rarely take any videos. Also it's not clear how much protection cases will offer curved screens and if they would be more susceptible to cracking even with a case.
I believe it has wireless chargingAs tempting as the P30 is despite liking the OLED display, the in screen fingerprint scanner and the camera setup, ... I just can't bring myself to splash out £700 on a phone with only IP53 dust and splash proofing, STILL no 4k/60fps recording, and STILL no wireless charging!

How important is that IP53 to you, really? The 4K/60fps and wireless charging is understandable. I really hate how they downgrade the cameras from the Pro vs regular model on both the Mate and P series. They should keep them the same.
The IP53 issue is probably a non-issue to be completely honest, I just know that resistance degrades over time (how quickly, I don't know) and that an IPX3 rating doesn't actually mean splash proof, it means spray proof, yet, the P30 and other devices with an IPX3 rating are sold as 'splash proof'. So I'd rather get the most resistance in the first place... and for £699, the P30 really should have more resistance. It's a better to be safe than sorry type scenario.
My brother had an Honor Play, which I know doesn't have an IP rating but it has been tested by the likes of getdroidtips to have equivalent resistance to an IP53 rated device, but he had it in his pocket when he was doing a 12 mile walk in the rain and it killed his phone.
But yeah, I feel like Huawei have nerfed the P30 too much.
For me personally water and dust resistance/proof factors in little when I purchase a device, nice to have that reassurance for sure but not a deal breaker for me. Gone many years w/o (never an issue) and still treat those "with" as if they didn't. I'd rather error on the side of caution cuz these devices have gotten too dang expensive.
Yeah, I don't usually bother looking at IP ratings too, and similar to yourself I just treat any device that I purchase as effectively having an IP00 rating, but then again, I've never spent £699 on a phone. If I'm looking at a £699 phone, I want that guarantee that it isn't going to be damaged by rain, without that guarantee, for me personally, it is a deal breaker.
Oh I hear you. For me the problem is, I refuse to pay anything over 1K (here in Canada) so chances are good there's going to have to be some concessions in regards to bells & whistles choosing IP ratings as one of them... manufactures like to play little games by omitting some things on a lower tier device in order to entice purchasing the upper end model(s) (makes sense to a degree), price differences usually reflect that too.
$1k cad is only $750 usd. Which is pretty cheap for a flagship phone.
