Why am I getting an Error installing 5.1?

Error installing 5.1

I'm trying to install the OTA update to 5.1 on my new Nexus 6. Current build number LRX22C.

Every time I get the notification to upgrade to 5.1, I download the update and try to install it. Within a minute of rebooting to install, the android on his back with an exclamation mark is shown, with the single word "Error". I've tried many times with the same result. I've also tried clearing the cache, and completely draining/recharging the battery. Short of completely wiping the phone, I'm not sure what else I should try.

I've been running 5.1 on my Nexus 5 for about a week already, didn't have this problem. The difference between the two phones would be that the Nexus 5 was purchased direct from Google, whereas the Nexus 6 was purchased from the mobile carrier.

Anyone else have this problem? Ideas?

have you tried a factory reset and update? i saw someone having problems and worked after doing this

What carrier? May be worth pulling sim and trying over wifi. Worked on att for 5.0.1

I haven't tried a factory reset, but I actually tried to upgrade the day I bought it (yesterday) so it should have already been reset. I was hoping to avoid that since I just went through the setup process...

I also tried removing the Sim without any luck. Carrier is Bell.

since you just got the phone, it might be worth it to do another factory reset

Factory reset, no SIM, still getting the error when trying to upgrade.

Is there an official ROM that would be safe to use to flash it with to bring it up to the official 5.1?

That is the strategy to get the update notification if you're not getting it. It has zero to do with an error in updating once notification received.
