Why am I getting an error message when I try to open the Market?

My market doesn't open.

I have a samsung galaxy ace, my market stopped working few months ago, when i try to open it, it says "Attention: and error has occured. Please try again later" i went to setting, and opened manage applications, and the only option i have on market, it is "clear data" i did, still doesnt work, i tried to download it again on internet, but it says it is already installed, and i dont know how to erase it. what can i do?

Welcome to Android Central! Is it called Android Market or Google Play Store? Android Market is a very old version, and should have been updated to Google Play Store a while ago.
