Why am I having problems with text messaging between Android & iOS?

I moved to a Nexus 5 for the bigger screen but texting is making me crazy. I shut off iMessage on the iPhone, then called Apple Technical Support and had them revoke the certificate, which should remove me from their servers.

From what I've read, everything should then default to SMS. But I can't send SMS to IOS phones, and they can't send SMS to me. Android to Android appears to be okay.

This is making an android noob crazy.

Ideas?

Thanks,
/john

Re: Text messages don't move either direction between IOS and Android!

Welcome to Android Central! Trying to extricate yourself from iMessage can be an ordeal. Did you call back Apple Support to let them know that it's still not working, even after they supposedly removed your number from the iMessage server?

Also try booting your Nexus 5 into Recovery Mode and wiping the cache partition, which won't erase any personal data. On the Nexus 5, this procedure can take upwards of 10 minutes, so be patient. http://forums.androidcentral.com/nexus-5-rooting-roms-hacks/352008-guide-nexus-5-recovery.html

UPDATE: I called Apple again and was told that I needed to delete and then re-install the profiles of the OIS people when whom I message. That worked. I'm sure it's an undocumented feature.... Thanks for the help!

I moved off Apple three years ago and my sister still can't send me text from her old iPhone. Apple has said their engineering team is working on it over a year ago but apparently they don't want to fix it as payback to Apple deserters.

Thanks for letting us know! This is an important piece of info. Can you give us a few more details? Which profiles of the iOS people are you talking about? You mean their contact info?
