Why am I no longer able to have a separate home screen and lock screen wallpaper?

A

AC Question

After the recent NDN26. 118.23 build update, I can't set different pictures for my home and lock screen. I'm not sure if it has to do with the build update, or the Google Photos update, but it would be nice if I could keep my ability to have separate wallpapers.

Welcome to Android Central. It would be helpful to know which device, OS version you are using.

Welcome to the forums. Do you have a Moto Z Play? How did you manage to change the lock screen wallpaper before the update?

Yes, I have Moto Z Play Verizon version, and to set them separately before I just selected "use as" in the menu in the photo in the Google photos app and then at some point in the process it would ask if I wanted to set it as the lock screen or the home screen wallpaper.

Thanks for registering! Have you already tried the other way to change the wallpaper? Long press an empty spot on your home screen - wallpapers - select an image - set wallpaper - select lock screen.

I have a Motorola E5 Cruise and the wallpapers icon shows up when i long press, but it won't allow me to click on it. The two icons next to the wallpaper icon, "widgets" and "settings," both work. I'm also trying to set different lock and home screens so I am trying to follow the directions mentioned above, but it is not working.

Welcome to the forums. Which Android version is that phone running? Those instructions are specific for some versions and they will always depend on the launcher that you are using.

Have you already tried changing the wallpaper from the Display settings or from your gallery app?

I’m running Android version 8.0.0. Yeah, I’ve tried changing the wallpaper from the display settings. When I go into wallpaper from settings, I have two options, “Live Wallpaper” and “Photos,” but when I select an image from “Photos,” it automatically sets as both my lock and home screen without giving me an option, AND the photo that I choose gets cropped to a perfect square format that I can’t alter despite the image having fitting measurements for a portrait phone background.

The “Live Wallpapers” choice has no live wallpapers available.

What gallery app are you referring to? I don’t seem to have it on my device.

Thank you for trying to help me work this out.

Is this the Cricket model? Did you ever have the option to set different wallpapers for the lock and home screens? It's possible that your launcher doesn't include that option.

And yes, Google photos is the stock gallery app in most Moto devices.

Yeah it's the Cricket model, I actually was able to set different wallpapers before, but I tried to change it recently and realized that it didn't give me the option to any longer.

I have tried choosing a photo and selecting "Use As --> Wallpaper," but it yields the same results.

I've seen in other places that branded models lose features after system updates, it's possible that Cricket removed this option. Not sure what else to suggest, sorry.

Hi I can help you with it as I have faced exact same issue,
Go to the option "see all apps" at Apps & Notification in settings , there search for Wallpaper app, open it and Enable it as it would have been disabled , you need to enable it & that's it. Now you'll see a seprate app named Wallpaper with all other apps in your device. Open it and now you can change wallpaper from there .
