Why am i not getting a notification when i have a gmail?

[Android Central Question]

Phone 2 days old from Tmobile. Have spoken w support from Tmobile & Samsung. I am not getting sound or icon notifications when I have an email from gmail. If I click gmail from my home page, I have to refresh it to load my emails.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Have you already gone to Settings>Apps, selected the email app, then Notifications, and made sure they're set appropriately? If they already are, then try turning off Battery Optimization for the email app.
