Why am I not receiving texts from some contacts

I am brand new to android having switched over from iphone4 to the Vodafone smart ultra 6 just 4 weeks ago. Whilst my text messaging sends fine, I am not receiving replies sent by some of my contacts. If These replies can be seen on my ipad but on my phone there is zilch! Nothing even to tell me a reply has been sent.

Initially I wondered if there was some kind of conflict being experienced due to phone and ipad in close proximity or switched on at the same time but not so. I've completely powered down the ipad but the problem persists.

I have already been in touch with the Vodafone shop where I bought the phone and the vodafone help line too but so far the fault persists. I will of course be following this up but in the meantime i'm wondering whether anyone else with experience of something similar has found a solution?

Did you make sure to turn off imessage on your iPhone and ipad?

No I didn't. My old iPhone just died without me being able to rescue anything or switch imessage off? Tbh I didn't even know to do that. However, I've try that on the ipad today (after I've googled how to)! Many thanks for your suggestion Sinful
