All I want is a home button replacement - and each one I have tried has some stupid issue making it less productive, rather than more. Here's what I have used that were better than the rest:

1) Swipe Home Button - and when you enable "swipe up from bottom" it has an issue with Swiftkey where the spacebar in the keyboard does not work close to the bottom edge, so you end up with major typos and it is annoying. I have the issue and have read about many others who have the same thing. Good thing it's not a paid app or I'd demand a refund. It has the same issue with the Samsung keyboard, although not as bad.

2) "All in one gestures"...it has a very simple UI and works fine when in the home screens, but works about only 30% of the time inside apps...totally useless. Big thumbs down, fail.

I have tried a few others, but many don't do what I want. All I need is a ******* swipe up from the bottom of the screen that will take me to the default HOME screen...and even Nova doesn't take me there with the Home button. It takes me to the the last used page on the homescreen. Can't any of these developers get anything right???

A simple home button replacement seems to be more than any of these developers can handle...wow.

Nova Settings-->Gestures and Buttons-->Home Button-->Page X.

OR

Nova Settings-->Gestures and Buttons-->Swipe Up-->Jump To Page X.

for my 3 Page/Screen Nexus 5, "X" = Page 2 (the Middle Page/Home Screen).

Nova Prime:

1.Nova Settings>Gestures and Buttons>Home Button>Nova = Default Page.
Always takes me to the home page. When you pinch in on the home page, whatever page as the green check mark is considered the default page.

That's why I purchased it, instead of downloading only the free version. That only work inside of the launcher...so if you're running an application - say the Samsung mail client, and you try to swipe up from there...it doesn't work. The developer e-mailed me to let me know that as well. Dumb, really really dumb and I would never have paid him had i known. Why do I need a sipe to home that doesn't work outside of the launcher?? Right now, the gestures don't even work for me inside Nova...

Just out of curiosity, why don't you want to use the home button?

A few reasons actually,

1) I come from BlackBerry - the last one being a Z10. That device is all gesture driven...and very smooth/ fluid. With over a million apps on Android, I would think there would be plenty that can run a device based on gestures. My instincts now are swipes, not button presses. Gestures seem more fluid and natural to me. Home button is so IPhone/ iPad....(which I hate)

2) I believe that pressing the home button often enough will cause it to break at some point. I could be wrong, but it's what I am feeling anyway.

So, I found a cool little app called "My Home Button" that shows up in the notification bar...and give you two options, Home and Recent apps. It means one more action, but it works 100% of the time since the notification bar is a built-in Android app. Not a swipe, but a soft button and it's a decent alternative anyway.

I'd still like to find a swipe gesture that I can use as a swipe up from the bottom of any screen /app,etc...that will take me to the home screen.

i believe Nova Prime works on my Nexus 5 from within Apps - but i'm glad you found a solution.

Doesn't for me, and according to the developer, it's not designed to either. The solution was good, but it eats resources while in memory, so I dumped that one too...

give the regular home button a chance. give it a week or two. you like what you know and what you're used to.

good luck.

I don't use my home button and Power button.
Download pie control. You can set it up to do what you want it do to. I go back with pie, close my screen, go home and even open my application that are running.

And the best part is it only appears when you touch the very down bottom of your screen. You can adjust the thickness you want yourself.

Just try it out and see for yourself.

Since I was an iPhone user I had a jailbreak app called zephyr.. God.. Amazing that tweak /app is! Still loving that and hope one day it comes to Android.. Anyway, this did a bit zephyrs job for me on Android..

I was trying to figure out why Swipe Home Button was such a problem for you because I love it and I almost never use my home button! I then noticed there is a real difference between the Samsung Keyboard which I prefer and The Swipe Keyboard. The gap below the space button on the Samsung keyboard is 2 almost 3 times wider so I think that is why I rarely if ever trip SHB when going for the space key. There is a setting in SHB to narrow the swipe area which I had originally changed to "Small" so maybe that helps too - have you tried changing that?

Sorry to hear SHB doesn't work for you - it is one of my favorite tweak apps.

I've had the phone since Oct...so I've had plenty of opportunity to live with the home button...

Thanks - I know about it, but that doesn't solve the issue. I wish they'd fix it...

I have the same combo (Swipe Home Button and SwiftKey), and had some issues with them overlapping for lack of a better term. I've adjusted my fingering and it's not really a problem.

Your reasoning: 1. Coming from BB and having a memory isn't a good reason at this point. Respectfully, that was the past, and you can learn new patterns/habits. I came from PalmOS/WebOS to Android and had my gripes too. I adjusted. You will too.

2. The buttons should have hundreds of thousands of cycles in its lifespan. That said, some do fail prematurely, but it's really pretty rare given the astronomical number of units sold.

I liked SwipePad, if you haven't already tried it, give it a look. I would think you should be able to set one of the pads to your home screen.

Good luck!

Reasoning is very subjective. My natural tendency is swiping rather than pressing buttons. The past (Blackberry) is actually the future, for me, gestures etc...and it seems more intuitive to me.

In any case, I am not able to adapt to the spacebar issue with Swipe Home, albeit I have tried. It's a pain. I will try swipepad however! Thanks for the heads up!

You have to realize that Android isn't like BB or Palm. I came from a Palm Pre which used swiping and gestures even before blackberry. The OS's on android are totally different. It will take time to adjust.

Agree, reasoning can be subjective. But your tendency to swipe is not natural, it is learned, as a lifetime BB user.

Glad SwipePad worked for you. I like it too. I try similar options from time to time and keep going back to it.

Best.
