DCIM files deleted when connecting GE X600 camera to Galaxy S2 Tablet

Initially, 5GB of files in the DCIM folder were deleted when connecting a GE X600 camera (with PNY 16GB SDHC) to Samsung tablet to transfer files. (Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 running Android 5.1.1).

I recovered the files using the Card Rescue app on OS X. Saved the files to an external HD, then transferred back to the SD card in a new folder (not DCIM folder).

Now when I take pictures and connect the camera to the tablet (with SDHC card installed), the files that were just viewable in the camera are gone. I ejected the camera and confirmed the files now don't appear on the camera either.

Searched Google every which way I could think of. Couldn't find anything...

Corrupted SDHC? Or issue with the camera itself? Or maybe the tablet?
