Why are my SMS delaying on my Z3 Compact?

Delayed SMS Issue

I've been using a Z2 with Textra for a few months with no problems receiving SMS. A couple weeks ago, I got a Z3 Compact and after a couple days, starting noticing that I was getting delayed texts. I did many things to troubleshoot, including calling AT&T, and nothing helped, so I went back to my Z2 and never experienced the issue. Now I got a fresh new Z3 and everything seemed fine yesterday. Today I got up and had one text message notification. I didn't think anything of it. About an hour ago, I had 4 texts come in from 4 different people at the exact same time, did some digging, and realized that they were sent a while before I actually received them. I haven't been able to figure out the source of the problem, was wondering if anyone on here has had the same problem or may know of a solution.

That's odd.. Hasn't happened to me. You sure you using the correct APN settings? Are you using hangouts or the sony messaging app? I've always used hangouts.

I'm using Textra and I have the correct APN settings. It's an intermittent problem, which makes it that much more frustrating. It's never happened on my Z2. I love the look of the Z3 over the Z2, and the screen and speakers are big improvements, but if this issue persists, it may be back to the Z2 I go...

I would try another SMS client and see if the problem persist.

Just a thought, are you using Stamina mode? If you are, have you changed the settings in Stamina mode to allow Textra to be awake all the time?

No Stamina mode. I have everything set up exactly the way it was with my Z2 and I never had the problem. This has happened with both my Z3 and Z3c. Looks like it's back to the Z2 for now...

I also use Textra and on AT&T and not having this problem
Do u get strong signal in your area?

Signal isn't the greatest. I have a network signal app that shows I get about 45% signal, however it is the same with my Z2 and I never had this problem. That's what's frustrating. My guess is that the radio may be just *slightly* less powerful in the Z3 and Z3c, which is why it's happening. As much as I love the improvements over the Z2, I need to know that I'm getting my texts on time.

Does it happen when you're not using Textra though?

I was having similar problems on T-Mobile here in the states. I went into the call settings and turned off VOLTE, and voila, no more issues sending/receiving SMS!

I have the same issues with my z3 for T-Mobile and it's been a nightmare. They told me delete all my text messages and start over and that still didn't fix the issue.

I would double check power settings, particularly Stamina Mode (you said it's off) and the queue background data settings. If you find that Stamina is actually on actually on & you want to keep it, then add Textra to the list of apps to keep awake while the screen is off (side note: if you use Tasker, it's a good idea to add it to that list, too).
