Why are Old Messages showing up as New?

Old Messages showing up New

I just got the S7 from the Note4 and at first everything was going great, but then Messages Backup & Sync was going for like 2 days and it was killing my battery so I turned it off. Then I downloaded the facebook messenger and it was trying to take over my sms, turned that part of it off. Ok here is the really juicy part. Since this passed weekend, I have been and am still getting "new" texts even though these are all really old and out of date how do I make it stop doing that? and make it to where when some one texts me, they come to the top of the list with a new message? also am I alone in this issue?

Guess I am just special then. I haven't had any issues with this today though so maybe it was residual from when it was turned on and it was playing catch up?

That could be or maybe your provider was having hicups...it happens Hopefully it's fixed now.
