Why cant I answer my phone when it rings

When my phone rings I get a black screen

Hi there,

Which phone do you have?

Do you have a screen protector on it? Could the screen protector be blocking the proximity sensor?

If you don't have a screen protector, have you checked to see if the area where the proximity sensor is located is dirty? Does cleaning the screen help?

When my motorola moto e rings I either get a black screen or it stays on my home and wont let me answer the call
