Why can't I answer my s4 with a slide

I have to always press the home button to answer my galaxy s4 then press the phone, why is this? Do I need a app to be able to use a slide?

I am not sure I understand completely. Are you saying when you get a phone call you don't have the option to slide one way to answer and slide the other way to send to voicemail?
