Why can't I directly reply to messages on Instagram?

(I don't know if this is where I should ask this so apologies in advance if it isn't) So recently, my Instagram had been acting up, where I couldn't open videos/pictures my friends would send, and the only solution would be for me to reinstall, and later on started working. Anyways, enough with that, on to the issue on hand. Now, I can't reply to messages using the reply feature, where (if I remember correctly) you would swipe the message and it would let you reply to it. I still have access to the themes and custom emoji reactions, just not that reply feature. I already tried reinstalling, but I am still unable to. I tried updating as well but it is on the latest version. Is there a way to fix this?

I actually had uninstalled yesterday a few hours before making the post. But I guess once more wouldn't hurt.

I feel like my previous response wasn't very clear. What I meant is that in post replies I can still reply, it's just the DMs and group chats where I can't reply to a specific message

That is understandable. Also, I reinstalled it, and now I am able to reply, but I have to hold the message and click the reply button. Even Instagram told me "Tap and swipe to reply to messages", but maybe I am swiping wrong? Though the solution is not as convenient, I would like to see if there is a solution as to why I can't swipe to reply

I don't have to swipe there a text bar and reply through that

I've had both ios and android and have changed phones throughout the years (so have re-installed instagram several times), but the dm reply feature has never worked for me. I heard something about an EU Legislation thing, but I only moved to the UK 2 years ago.

Thanks! =) I dunno, but I searched on reddit and that's what most people were saying haha. It's a bit annoying though that I never could reply!

Its possible it could be a region thing .
