Android Central Question

The Google task app worked before the phone was reset

Welcome to Android Central! Which Google task app are you referring to, and are you trying to install it from the Play Store?

Note 5 resetting did not restore Google Task app

Resetting did restore drive, gmail, photos, maps, calender, but missing tasks

Re: Note 5 resetting did not restore Google Task app

I was under the impression Google tasks was deprecated.

I merged duplicate threads.

I had been using a 3rd party app called Tasks (can't remember the developer name) that synced with Google Tasks, but it looks like it got removed from the Play Store at some point. So I installed My Tasks instead, which is free and ad-free, and works quite well so far.

@Golfdriver97, believe it or not, Google Tasks (which is part of Gmail) still works, and I still use it (because I'm old and don't know how to change my ways:p). I prefer it to the Google app's reminders feature because I can see a list of all of my tasks (there's no way to show a list of your upcoming Google reminders, although you can see them in the Calendar app). And Google Keep's list format doesn't have a way to set notifications or reminders for specific items on the list -- it's only for the whole note. This is another thing that Google needs to consolidate better into one app.

Can you give us the Play Store link for the app? Who's the developer?

Yep, that's exactly the app I was using before. I only recently noticed that it was no longer in the Play Store -- that can happen if the developer abandons the app. You could try searching other sites for the apk installer file, but that can be a little risky, since malware is more common in those sites. I suggest trying that My Tasks app I mentioned in my previous post -- it works quite well, and is free and without ads. Its widget seems to sync more readily than the widget for that "ice cubes" Tasks app.

In the future, you can insure the availability of all your apps, even if they disappear from the play store, with an app like App Backup & Restore. Just back up all your apps, then copy the backup folder to a PC or to your Drive account (or any cloud account).

And just FYI, resetting doesn't restore anything, it removes any changes you've made since you got the phone, including installing apps. So the tasks app, which you installed, was removed. (It shouldn't be named "factory reset" it should be named "restore to factory condition" with a note that this will remove all the information, data and apps you've put on the phone since you got it.)
