Why can't I get mms on my Moto G Gen 2?

moto g ext consumer cellular will not retrieve mms unless a mms is sent.

Welcome to Android Central! Do you mean that if a person tries to send you an MMS message, you don't get it until you actually send one yourself? Have you spoken to Consumer Cellular support?

yes you understand exactly and I have spoken with CC reps three times, no avail. Auto retrieve was always checked. Now I checked "auto retrieve when roaming" since CC does not charge for roaming, but have not yet tried that. I did do a system update but I was already current. Thanks for your interest.

It's an odd problem for sure. Do you have any kind of power-saving mode or app turned on? Just wondering if something is keeping your mobile data turned off inappropriately. Also, go to Settings>Data Usage, and make sure Restrict Background Data isn't turned on universally, or specifically for the Messaging app.

As a CC user myself I can tell you they do not support any Android above 4.4.4 When my Moto G lte was upgraded to 5.1 I lost all ability to send pictures etc. I can receive them but not send. I ended up getting a Lumia 640 on Cricket to fix the need to send MMS. They are not adding any new upper end Android phones so I will probably drop them in the near future. And move my Android phone to Cricket.
