Why can't I get my Google contacts to sync to my Galaxy S6 Edge +, yet my calendar did?

I can't get my google contacts to sync to my galaxy S6 edge +, yet my calendar did.

I synced all my info from my old phone to my google acct, got a new phone, set up all my accts & activated everything that was needed. My calendar did sync, as did my notes & tasks, my contacts however, have not. Very frustrating.

Welcome to Android Central! How exactly did you sync the contacts on your old phone with Google? Were those contacts originally associated with your Google account, or were they with the local Phone account? If the latter, then you would have had to export the contacts to a .vcf file, then import them into your Google account.
