Why can't I get to the apps to download from the App Store to my Samsung Galaxy S5?

I cannot get apps to download from the App Store to my Samsung Galaxy S5

Whenever I try to download an app from the store, nothing downloads. The progress bar shows, but nothing downloads. I also haven't seen an update alert in awhile. I am having no trouble with my Tab S2. Can anyone help?

I would try to clear cache and app data on the Google play store app

and how much storage space do you have left? Even with 300mb of storage, I find it finicky downloading from the store
