Why can't I import Galaxy S5 voice recorder files to iTunes?

I cannot import Galaxy s5 voice recorder files to iTunes.

After emailing the voice recorder (m4a) file to my desktop, in iTunes I click on "add file to library" and choose the file. Nothing happens, and the file does not show up in iTunes.

I need to do this in order to get these files onto my iPod.

My desktop uses Windows 7. I have iTunes 11.1.3.8.

The Internet says that m4a files can be imported into iTunes. What am I missing?

What if you put the files in their own folder, and use the Add Folder function in iTunes?
