Why can't I move files to an SD Card on my LG G3?

Moving files to SD Card LG G3

I've been trying to both move files to the sd card on my LG G3 and edit them, yet I don't seem to be able to do either. I updated the phone to lollipop through ATT. I would prefer not to root the device itself if possible

The SD card is now part of the file system, so only the app that created the folder the file is in can modify it.

I can move files to my SD card easily. I use Es file explorer. Moved pics, music etc easily

I have found that, for me, the easiest method is connect (usb to usb), phone to pc, and use the pc explorer software.
