I can't recieve calls or SMS when connected to WIFI. S5.

Hi

I have just upgraded from a galaxy S4 to S5 and I'm having big problems with receiving calls and SMS when I am connected to my home WIFI connection.

Only when I turn off wifi on my phone I start receiving the backlog of SMS messages.

It's driving me mad as I have searched the internet high and low and lots of people have the same issues but no one seems to have a solution.

Some times I can receive calls when connected to wifi but the SMS messages don't come through until I disconnect.

My wife has also just upgraded from a s4 to s5 but hers appears to be ok.

I have noticed that in more networks/mobile networks/network mode, my wife's gives options of 3G, 4g etc but mine says LTE/WCDMA/gsm which I though was strange as we are both on virgin mobile. I don't think this is the issue though as it's a wifi issue.

Please help I'm on the brick of selling it as it's driving me insane.

Cheers

Have you tried calling your carrier to make sure the APN settings are correct?

Thanks for your reply.

Yes the carrier settings are correct.

The only thing I can think of is it may be a bug in the ROM.

Ok I've just proved it's the sim card / carrier settings.

The wife also has an s5 and we r both on Virgin, her phone works fine so I out my sim in her phone and hers in mine.

My phone then works with her sim but her phone no longer works with my sim.

So it's got to be the sim.

I've tried updating the Carrier settings from the Virgin website, as they send u them via text but it doesn't solve the problem.

No a strange thing is when I go to my wife's mobile networks settings, network mode it's gives her the options of 4g 3g 2g etc but my phone says lte/wcdma/gsm.

Not sure why this is as we have the same settings.

Just guessing, but any way you can get a different sim card? Maybe that will help?

Ok so I got my new sim card yesterday but the problem still persists.

It's driving me crazy, I have a £350 phone that can't even receive texts or calls when connected to wifi.

I've searched high and low on Google but no one seems to have a solution.

OK. Try rebooting into recovery and clearing the system cache. http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...ing-into-recovery-mode-galaxy-s2-s3-tab2.html
Follow the steps for the S3. Maybe that will help.

Hey,
I recently had this problem with my brand new Nexus 5. It was extremely frustrating as I was worried it was not a fixable problem after reading through countless forums on how you might fix this problem.
For me the fix was actually very simple;
You go into Settings > (Wireless & Networks Section)More... > Mobile Networks > Preferred network type
If the preferred network type is set to 4G then switch it to 3G.
This should fix the problem and allow you to receive calls and SMS whilst connected to WiFi.
If this path I stated above does not get you to the preffered network type then I suggest you look up how to get to your preferred network type on your particular phone.
I hope this can help a few people fix this problem.
Merry Christmas :)

Edit: Just to let you know I also tried all of the suggested fixes such as doing a system restart. Ensuring the SIM is connected properly and that I'm connected to the correct carrier etc. None of this worked at all and if you're having the same problem then just follow what I put above :)

I had the same problem. If wifi is on, I have to shut it down and enable DATA and sms will download without a problem. I hope this solves your problem.

This worked for me for a period of time
I set my network to 3G then updated my Network Profile.
This issue was too driving me nuts but apparently you can't be connected to wifi and 4G at the same time.

What ultimately worked for me was a factory reset. Backup all your apps first.

This works but I constantly had to keep doing it.

This ultimately worked for me

Go to System Settings -> Wi-Fi -> Hit the Menu Button -> Advanced Wi-Fi -> Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep -> Finally select "Keep Wi-Fi off"

Your Wi-Fi will only connect when you turn the screen back on. It appears that there's an issue with the mobile network being disconnected when Wi-Fi is turned on.
