Welcome to Android Central! A lock on the wi-fi symbol usually means it's password-protected. Does it ask you to enter a password when you select the network to connect to?
If it doesn't, tell it to forget that connection, then try to connect. (If you ever connected to a non-passworded wifi connection of that name, it won't try to make a passworded connection.)
