Why can't the SD card be left in?

I have the new Samsung Chromebook 3 with the micro SD card slot. When I put the SD card in, it tells me that I need to mount and unmount it all the time. Why can't it simply be left in like on my cell phone? Are there settings I need to take care of so that this can work?

Generally the card gets left in. Maybe try a different one...
