Why can't you use a theme with Google Messages?

Samsung stock messages app my background is the theme on my phone. If I want to change the background for certain contacts I can do that. If Google Messages is a part of "Material You" then why can't you customize your background? This is why most people and Androids because you can completely customize your phone. Also Google Messages is not transferring all my messages from the stock app. Anybody else notice this?

Welcome to Android Central! It's because Samsung's theming is for their own apps, not other company's apps. You should be able to use Google's Material You Theming on Samsung, though: https://www.theverge.com/2022/2/10/...-12-dynamic-color-themes-samsung-oneplus-oppo

Did you turn on RCS Chat features in the Google Messages app? Do the messages that don't show up in Google Messages have anything in common?
