Why did a text get sent from my phone # that I did not send?

[Android Central Question]

A friend sent me a screenshot of a text that came from me at 2am. It was clearly shown in the text thread. However, I never sent a text and it was NOT shown in the thread on my end. What can cause this?? It was literally just the word "ugh." I looked back in our thread and the last time I texted that was a month ago! Can a text be delayed that long? I have a pixel 2 and he has a iphone.

Are you on Verizon? They had some glitch this morning that had texts from as far back as February 14th get re-delivered. There's been several reports of that floating around.
