Why did my battery life go from 14h hours to 6h on my Moto X?

I'm working with a Moto X (1st gen) that I've had for a year and a couple months. I am trying to determine whether it is the physical battery that is the problem or an issue within Android 4.4.4

Recently the phone hasn't even made it through an 8hr work day. I used to get 14hrs when I first got the phone. Now I average 6hrs.

I am an experienced Android user and I have checked out the battery stats extensively. No app is hogging the battery and I keep the screen and network settings at their recommended levels. I did clear the cache partition recently but that had little effect.

Is there anything else I can try or do I need a new phone? How long do phone batteries hold their life these days?

How low do you normally discharge the battery before you charge it? (If you say less than 40%, you have your answer.)

A battery properly conditioned before first use (which includes having the store set the phone up), then never dropped below 40%, will last so long, the phone will be useless. (My V551 batteries - over 10 years old - still give me 95% capacity. Great phone, it even has a camera.) Getting as much time between charges as you can will kill the battery in 6 months.

Thanks for the reply but I'm a little confused. Are you saying it is best practice to never let a phone battery go below 40%?

Sounds very much like a battery issue. That battery is not user replaceable, that is not to say you could not replace it though. If you are not comfortable tackling the task, then you could find a repair facility.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know that I could replace the battery myself. I am going to see if it's worth doing.
