Why did no one go crazy?

While you're waiting for one of those awesome new phones to come out, I'll be taking full advantage of my new Inspire. Sure it will be obsolete in 6 months, or sooner, but the shelf life on that other phone your waiting for is exactly the same, just sayin. I love this phone, its a million times better than the captivate. HTC makes, as well as supports, great phones. Sense UI is beautiful and it works! Build quality is top notch, the phone is absolutely gorgeous! Don't care about a front facing camera. Sure I'd use it to take goofy pics of myself, for a few days. Camera and video quality are superb. Also, HTC has customization on lock! The only things I could complain about: the led flash causes a yellow hue, so I don't use it; the Inspire only comes with 4gb on board memory, but they throw in an 8gb SD card. So, I guess I'm not really complaining about anything!

Look again. They might fundamentally be the same but the Thunderbolt has a newer chipset and dedicated graphics. If they were the same, AT&T wouldn't be selling them for 99 bucks.

It runs the MDM9600, which is the same as the Inspires MSM8255, but offers multiple radios, including Verizons LTE. That is the only difference. They both run the Adreno 205 gpu's, and they are both 45nm 1ghz processors.

The phone is fine, I think the reason people didn't go ape**** over it is A. The Atrix is better in many minds and B. ATT's "4g" network is horse****. Countless speed tests in different area's have shown it to be very slow. People will buy the Atrix and the inspire because they are good phones, I really don't think "4g" will be a selling point for ATT until they move to LTE.

The HSPA+ network wont be officially up until March 1st, that is why speeds are crap.

I think that the reason that people didn't go crazy on it is because the Atrix (& the huge hype made because of it many 1st in the world & the docks) on At&t & the delays of the ThunderBolt on Verzion
Plus the Atrix came like a week after it !
Just like the Galaxy S when it came out , 2 days later the Droid X cameout , 3 days later the iPhone 4 cameout

the atrix is why.... I have an inspire. Was gonna go atrix but glad i didnt

So far i love my inspire, but im pickin up the atrix also to compare for a couple of days. the inspires battery life is not to be desired really, and the atrix has that 1930 mah (i think) beast inside it.......thats what im looking for! i just dont know bout the motoblur though.

Atrix does nothing to impress me, in fact for it's specs, it seems to underwhelm. I bought my inspire off contract, and wont be upgrading until a dual core 4.3" HTC device is brought to market, either on ATT or elsewhere.

You and me both brother. lol :)

I hope you enjoy your new phone very much. I belive it is a great phone but the original question was why it didn't make big headlines. And by the way it is hard to compare one phone with the other because the manufacturers are trying to sell us on buying the next best thing even if we realy dont need it. If you customise your phone software you can extend the capacity and speed way beyond the manufacturer specs.

great phone

i work at a bestbuy mobile and have had a chance to play with this phone for a bit, and as an evo owner i can say this phone is awsome, huge reason this phone didnt get the hype besides the atrix is att and their lack of advertising and marketing their product, the screen is beautiful compared to the Evo's washed out LCD screen and sense 2.0 makes a world of difference and adds customization options galore. Great phone, bleh network... a frontfacing camera seems like a no brainer too on a quote unquote "4G" device too..

I think it's because most people don't like the fact that the hardware is already 6 months old. Like threatlevelmidnight said, AT&T's lack of advertising prior to release surely did not help to build enough hype either.

I think it's an absolutely STELLAR device, and I have the grandfathered unlimited smartphone personal with 4g - my subsonic server will be humming.

My opinion might be clouded by the fact that I upgraded to the inspire from a Blackberry Bold 9000 - the single WORST piece of consumer electronics I have owned. Seriously, monthly OS wipes and daily battery pulls. NEVER AGAIN!

Eh... coming out the same week as Verizon got the iPhone I don't know if a big advertising push for what amounts to a tweaked Evo would have gone all that well for at&t. The atrix is bleeding edge though and won all those CES awards, so it might get more of a push...

I agree with that as well. I had almost forgot about the Verizon iPhone. lol Shows you how much I care for the iPhone. lmao :D

Sadly Sprint Made a bigger deal out of their "INDUSTRY FIRST -FAIL" that is the Kyocera Echo while the inspire was a great phone, though a sleeper with a quiet release.. AT&T=Fail

I've had the Inspire for a week now and love it (sent my Captivate back).

I thought the Captivate had a better design/aesthetic - just a personal thing.

I wasn't a fan of the TouchWiz UI so I rooted and put Cognition on it... etc...

The Captivate was thin and light...I liked that.

Now to the Inspire....
The 4.3" screen is gorgeous...bright and colorful
The Sense UI is very good
The phone is snappy and very responsive and seldom ever lags
I wish I could find and app that let me leverage the LED like I did on my BB.
I got a Seidio case and don't really like it since the cut out for the on/off button is a bit off so it's a pain to turn on/wake the phone up

I have the Atrix and I'm not impressed enough to switch from the Inspire.
The only advantage I see is for playing games and I don't really play CPU/Graphic intensive games on my devices.

The one cool thing about the Atrix is the back cover. It reminds me of the BB Bold's (9000) back cover in that you can buy a 3rd party version to replace it with different materials and colors. But what's great about the Atrix's cover is it wraps around all 4 corners of the device. So if you drop it and scratch the corners you can easily replace the back cover and no more nicks and scratches.

It's a great phone. I have that and my evo. What I realized is the htc sense 2.0 is spectacular and the 2nd gen snap dragon is faster. I believe hands down it's the prettiest looking phone you can buy. The metal design is quality. My only problem is AT&T 4g is slower than 3G. It sucks, like it really really sucks. I might get the thunderbolt just to get some lte goodness.

Oh I get it. Its the price that makes a great phone.

If the inspire was $299 it would be the best phone on att.....

I talked my sister into getting one. She's upgrading from the touch pro 2. She's going to love it!

i work at a smaller store for at&t and we received 6 and on opening day they were gone in about 2 hours, which isn't bad for the amount of customer traffic. remember that at&t have really been pushing the windows phones and all the commercials that they do are all about the windows. i believe the average customer only knows about the iPhone cuz of popularity, and of the windows phone 7 because they see the commercials.
