So I had an iPhone 6, and before that an LG G3. I hated my LG G3. It was choppy, slow, laggy and just annoying.

Had enough and went iPhone 6. Worked great, but lacked a lot of things I enjoyed about Android. I did get a pseudo Android experience with Google Now on iOS, Inbox by Gmail, Maps, etc. (A lot of Google apps on iOS) but it just wasn't the same.

I eventually got bored and said screw it back to Android.

Went S6 Edge and that was a horrible experience despite all the raving reviews. I don't get how reviewers say such amazing things on it. I literally went through 5 phones thinking there was a defect. Perhaps it's just the T-Mobile version, anyway I thought to myself Nexus is the only way to go, but couldn't stand the size of it. The S6 was everything I hated about the G3 and some. The fact I bought the 64 GB Edge version at a price that could have bought two LG G4s was outrageous.

Anyway fed up with the S6 Edge, I sold it. Went with the HTC One M9 and then went back to iPhone with the intent on getting a smaller Nexus when it came out.

Then someone referred me to the G4 and I couldn't quite out my finger on it. Some people said smooth as ever, others said worse than S6.

Took the chance with a $50 restock fee at risk. I figured if I didn't like it just return it within the 14 day remorse period.

My point, its so good. Smooth, quick, good animations (minimal stutter), way better RAM management, etc.

It's no LG G3 and IMO better than the S6. iPhone still has it beat in fluidity, but its a great middle ground of functionality and UI smoothness. I couldn't be happier.

Plus it was on sale $479, its like it is my destiny.

I'm proud to say, LG G4 is my favorite Android phone of 2015 so far.

Feels like years of unhappy phones, has ended. I don't even care about root its so good lol.

Well that's my story, please welcome me to the LG forums.

Thanks

Aye! Welcome to the LG G4 owners club!

Enjoy your stay!

Glad to hear that the G4 gave you the best possible experience! ;)

(I'm guessing your S6 Edge lagged due to the really poor RAM management, eh?)

Grats on finding the right one :) My wife has a G4, she didn't/doesn't like the size of the device, but all devices are big now. Otherwise, it's fantastic for her.

Welcome and Congrats. I'm sure if you're on the forums you'll find things to give you an even smoother performance. Disabling apps, uninstalls, the like. I'm running the T Mobile version with no problems. Very smooth performance. Great post.

My wife has had HTC phones for a number of years now. She loved her M7 despite a couple of things. However, her M8 had WiFi and 4g issues. I talked her into the G4 (her first LG phone) and she loves it. I guess coming from the past couple of HTC devices, the size was not an issue for her.

I guess I can say the same with mine. I can't remember the last time I had an LG (was there a G2 slider?). I've pretty much had everything else though, even a brief stay on iPhone 4s (borrrrring). Windows phones and Blackberry's are great for their OS but I just missed some of the apps I needed to much. Lately it's been mostly Samsung. I was going to get a Galaxy S6 Active (other S6's were just to fragile looking) but I decided to go with something completely different and after MUCH deliberation, ended up with the LG G4 which other than my research, I knew next to nothing about. I'm very happy with it and I to wonder how I took THIS long to discover it's greatness. :D

I discovered LG last year with the G3 because I became bored with Samsung. LG is doing good things and I hope they just get better (ex. G4!). They'll have many loyal customers if they keep heading in the right direction!

Had the G3. It worked great prior to Lollipop, then took a big hit. (Because of that, I will not move to Android M on the G4 when it comes out.) My experience with VZW's version of the LG G3 went like this:

  1. I bought one opening day. The initial Software was buggy, glitchy, and generally a crappy experience. The battery lasted half a day.
  2. 30 days later, VZW update 1, really didn't see a whole lot of change.
  3. 30-60 days after that, update 2, made it a little better, but still not perfect. Battery still sucked.
  4. 30-60 days after update 2, 3rd update finally solved everything that was wrong with the phone including the battery life. Made it the best phone.
  5. 3 months after Android 5.0's release, VZW released Android 5.0.1 or 2 (can't remember). Took the phone back to step one.

After the G3 was destroyed from Lollipop, instead of going back down to 4.4, I decided to try out a 6 Plus. I loved that phone! Buttery smooth and the battery was amazing. It went 2+ days on a single charge with my normal use and not location issues. I didn't have to lift a finger to get that kind of life.

Only problem, and I mean the only problem, which was a HUGE one for me, was that the iOS Hotspot is terrible. Wouldn't stay connected to anything that wasn't an iPad or Macbook Pro. Since my phone is my only Internet at home, I got tired of swapping my SIM card from the iPhone to my old G2 every day, so I decided to move down to the G4. IMO the G4's the best Android phone on the market, but it's still got the Android jitters, lag, and force closing apps. However, the hotspot works great, so I guess I'll just wait from some updates to resolve the current issues.

The new Moto G (is that the one? I can't keep them straight) looks like a decent small-ish phone; aspects of it I don't like, but if I was going for a smaller phone, that's where I would head.

I agree. I hated my hotspot on my iPhone 6+ when I had it. It seemed to not stay connected and you didn't have any options really.

Glad you posted. I'm just about to pull the trigger on a g4 and sell my s6. This thing is getting a little slow... I know crazy. I've even done all I can to optimize the battery and reboot every night but it has some delay and the battery is useless. Imo

The S6 is now known for having what could be one of the worst RAM management on any top-end flagship.

3GB of LPDDR4, and somehow does worse than 3GB of LPDDR3. Even the One M9 did better.

I know it's a software fault, but IMHO, it's laughable that LG, which usually sucks with software, can code their software to manage RAM better than Samsung, a much bigger company and one who likely has more guys in the software department.

Just gushing a little but this G4 is absolutely outstanding (for me). I got up at 4am today, spent half the day at home the other running around, some areas poor coverage, some phone time and I'm at 80% at 3:00pm. I rarely go to bed with less than 30-40%, this phone is my business portal and I'm busy...constant use.

Refreshing to see for a change...BTW, you couldn't pay me to be in an iPhone, never understood the draw to those things although I have every other Apple product made LOL!

Glad you posted this. I was just debating between getting a G4 (unlocked) or a 6 Plus. I have a Nexus 6, but it's just too big for me. I figure the G4 would be the right size, with comparable battery life and a much better camera. I use iOS every now and then, and while it is nice for awhile, I always end up missing some obvious features from Android. Looks like I'm going to have to try out a G4 and wait on the fall phones to arrive. I don't think I'll be getting a Samsung until they figure out their RAM management - the S6 I had lagged as much as my BlackBerry Storm!

Here's why I recently (see pic) upgraded from my G3 to a G4. I'm glad I stumbled on this thread because I had full intentions of getting the S6. I pride myself on knowing everything through my research but it was the salesperson who convinced me to get the G4. Part of me thought that the S6 would be a fun change with Amoled and other options.

Re: Why didn't someone recommend the G4 "years" ago?!?!

AnandTech posted a full review of the G4 a few days ago.. as you probably know, they don't often review phones, but when they do, they delve deep into the hardware specs and look at the performance of individual components in quite a bit of detail. They seemed to have come away impressed with the way everything *works together* in this phone to create an excellent user experience, and I have to say I couldn't agree more.

For me, one of the key take-aways from that review was precisely that -- you can create a flagship phone by cramming a lot of top-performing components into a device, but that doesn't guarantee a good user experience. The reason why you end up liking the way a piece of technology works is that it creates a seamless experience for the user.

They specifically single out LG's decision to use the Snapdragon 808, but also the screen, the camera of course, and even the UI. It's an interesting read, and might even answer some of the questions about the hardware that come up again and again in the forums.

The G4 seems to be the kind of phone that folks will be speaking of fondly several years from now, like, say, the Nexus 5. It is very nice indeed.

Edit: They also compare the G4 to the current offerings from Apple and Samsung et. al., but also very specifically to its predecessor, the G3, which many people didn't like that much. They go into great detail over how the two are different, and what makes the G4 so much better. Definitely worth reading if you're currently thinking of buying a new phone.
