Why do apps randomly open?

Apps randomly open

For awhile now about half the time I close out an app, either that app will immediately pop back up, or another app will as if I touched the screen. I thought I was at first, but now know for a fact I am not. I work at a verizon store and none of my customers or coworkers who have the phone have run in to this problem. I wanted to ask the community here if you have ever even heard about something like this. Thanks.

I have run into the "ghost touch" problem on two different devices, where it appears that random touches are occurring on the screen though I was not actually touching it, causing apps to open and other actions to occur. In both cases the problem was a failed digitizer requiring repair.
