Why do I get a message saying I cannot write to file storage?

[AC Question]

Trying to download an ebook to Overdrive epub reader. Worked fine two weeks ago. Now I get the following message: Cannot write to file storage (/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.overdrive.mobile.android.mediaconsole/files). Please insure your device is not connected to a computer and verify your storage selection in Settings. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Bob

Did you ever find out the answer to your problem? I work at a public library and am trying to help a patron with the same issue--getting the same exact message. Thanks!

Welcome to Android Central! Make sure Overdrive is fully updated.

Also, if the device is on Marshmallow, go to Settings>Apps, select Overdrive, then Permissions, and make sure it has the proper storage permissions.
