Why do I have 102 apps running.

Okay S5 users, I used the Verizon Protection and Security App to see what was running on my phone. Currently it shows 102 apps running, including four that have high battery usage and twelve that have medium battery usage. Most of them I don't even use but were turned on when I turned phone on this morning. Can I get rid of them, and if so how?
Thank you.

No, thats the way they want it, we get more memory on newer phones, so they load up more crap that we don't want and can't get rid of unless we root the phone and void warranty...

If you just use Ultra Power Savings Mode once per day, it will silence almost all apps. Then, when you remove UPS, most will stay shut until individually activated.

I don't have Verizon, but I think this will work for you.
In settings go to Application Manager. Scroll from right to left and choose "all"
Select any dubious or suspect application that you want to remove.
There will be options at the top to uninstall or force stop or turn off.
Force stop, clear cache, clear data and uninstall (or turn off).

Can you show us a screenshot of that? It doesn't seem right. I doubt that 102 apps are actively open in RAM, because that's pretty much impossible. I'm guessing that list probably shows you how much battery each of those apps have historically used.

Thanks.
How do I know which ones are safe to delete?
I'd hate to get rid of something I need.

As a rule of thumb, I wouldn't delete any that use the little android man as an icon. Don't delete apps that start with com.. You can turn off any Verizon apps you don't want. These are what are usually referred to as "bloatware".
And remember, anything you uninstall can be reinstalled. Any app that you turn off can be turned back on.

Here's what I would do: uninstall the Verizon security and protection app and enjoy your phone.

As long as you're not having issues everything is fine.
