Why do I have to have phone connected via USB to use Airdroid

I have just started to 'play' with Airdroid on my Moto G4 Plus running Android 8.1. I can do everything ok except remote control - I have to connect phone to PC via USB first then it's fine. It continues working ok even after the USB cable is removed. I shut PC and phone down overnight and the next day remote control won't work unless I link it to PC via USB again.
Not a huge problem but damn annoying. I read somewhere that this was relatted to Anroid 8.0 and Android 8.1. What I'd like to know is:-
Is there a known workaround for this or are Sand Studios likely to issue an update to fix it?

Hi Ruckbat. Thanks for reply I must point out that, possibly being a weirdo, I am not a member of ANY social media platforms which rules out two of your suggestions. I have spent a great deal of time on Sand Studio's site looking for a way to contact them direct - without any joy. I just seem to be taken around in circles. I appreciate your suggestions but, as everything works fine when I connect my phone to my PC vi USB everything works fine then that's what I'll continue doing.
I just hoped somebody, would be able to say "It's easy, just perform step 1 followed by step 2"
