I recently got an S7 and noticed that when I type out ": (", I get one (very ugly) emoticon, but I can pick a different normal looking sad face icon from the emoji list. So far this seems to be the case for the very basic emotes like ": (" and ": )". I am using Google keyboard and have tried switching back to Samsung's native keyboard but this doesn't change the emotes.
To clarify, I am not referring to the base text emote, it would be fine if it left my text as the text emote. But it's changing it into a weird-looking emoticon instead, when there is a whole set of normal-looking emoticons.
Normal emoticon on left (picked from emoticon list), weird emoticon on right (when I type out ": (") -
