Why do I receive emails when the phone is in airplane mode?

I receive emails when the phone is in airplane mode

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and I use it as my alarm. Before I go to bed, I turn on airplane mode so emails and other notifications won't wake me up. On three separate occasions I have received emails during the night when the phone was in airplane mode. When I wake up in the morning, there is an email waiting for me in my inbox.
Also, recently I noticed that when I turn airplane mode off, my wifi does not turn back on, even though I never turned wifi off (other than placing the phone in airplane mode). After turning airplane mode off, I have to turn wifi on too.

Any ideas?

Try a Cache Partition wipe and see whether that fixes things. Let us know if it doesn't

You can go to Settings, My Device, Sounds and Notifications and set Do Not Disturb Hours. Works for me!
