Why do my movies go to a blank screen when I put them to full screen?

Samsung Tab S 10.5 - Blank Screen

Samsung Tab S 10.5" when I open a movie it automatics to split screen. When I try to go to full screen it goes blank but the sounds continues to play. I am unable to do anything else on the tablet. I have to do a soft reset to get it restarted. The movie is AVI format. Is this a known issue? Any ideas to try? Thanks in advance

I don't know much about the split screen function and rarely invoke it. But I just played 3 avi files and had no issues. I used the Native Video player to view them.
