Why do the Widgets (e.g. Weather or Alarm Clock) become invisible, OR blank sometimes?

Alcatel OneTouch (7040T)
Android: 4.4.2

I've been having an issue, more often than not, where the Widgets will just disappear, or become blank. (e.g. the The Weather Network)

I've tried:

1. Changing the wallpaper - background.
2. Rebooting, or removing battery.
3. Wifi or Data ON. No difference.
4. Clearing cache [via the app. itself, or power+up volume wipe cache]

I'm at a loss to know what's going on.
I can live without the widgets and just open the app. in question, yet surely there's a solution we can use.

I run a cache/app cleaner & have noticed afterwards that my 3rd party weather apps' widget is blank but it returns.
Have you tried removing & redownloading the app/s?
