Why doen't the spellcheck on the Xperia Z1 guess spaces?

Spellcheck (xperia z1) doesn't guess spaces

I am using the message app that comes with my xperia z1 compact.
I like many aspects of it, but I often miss the space bar or accidentally press a nearby button (mostly v or b or c).
I do not want to use autocomplete, but i do often like to use the suggested words that appear in the bar above the keyboard.
On my last phone (samsung s4 mini) if i missed a space, the spellchecker would almost always guess that, but on the xperia, while the spellchecker is gernerally ok, it never realizes that a long word with a v or a c between them are two words, NEVER.
Is there a setting on the spell checker i can choose to fix this? ( I have looked and haven't found one)
Given the tiny space bar on the xperia keyboard i can't believe that this isn't a major pain for other people.
I know a third party app might be the best fix, but i am super app shy because they all ask for too many permissions. Would appreciate any suggestions on a secure and permissions light 3rd party app from a trust-able developer.
