Why does answering a call with the phone locked always goes to speakerphone?

Answering call with phone locked always goes to speakerphone

I'm not sure when this started, but when my phone is locked and I receive an incoming call, that call always goes to speakerphone. And strangely enough, the speakerphone icon is not lit up. I actually have to turn on speakerphone, which does nothing, then turn it back off. Does anyone have any thoughts as to why this might happen?

I'm on a Verizon Note 4 running Android 5.0.1, kernel 3.10.40. To my knowledge I'm not running any special phone-related apps.

I think you can go into Call settings and change it.

Read THIS thread. People have found different solutions for their particular problems. Seems most are because of apps they installed or removing/replacing the battery (essentially rebooting the phone).
