Why does Galaxy A50 audio only work when calling?

[Android Central Question]

My Galaxy A50 has been having a weird audio bug lately. At random times it will suddenly lose all audio. When this happens, nothing comes out of the speakers or any audio device connected to it. The only audio that it will play is audio from a phone call. As soon as a call ends the audio vanishes again.

So far I have:

Restarted the phone normally
Restarted the phone in safe mode
Tried updating the phone (none available)
Disconnected all connected devices
Disabled bluetooth
Reset all network settings
Reset and restored the phone

Yet none of this has fixed the problem. I've done everything but a factory reset, but I'm hesitant to do this. I don't have access to a repair shop so I am wondering if anyone has any advice on how to fix this.

Welcome to Android Central! Just to be clear -- the audio isn't disappearing just because you're on a phone call? So in other words, you might be playing a game, and suddenly the sound stops, but if you then make a call, you can hear the phone audio?
