why does it take 5 seconds for sms conversations to appear??

hello again, i recently noticed something has changed when re-opening my SMS app.
it's now consistent when every time i open it,
it takes around 5 seconds when it's empty and says "no messages found",
and all conversations suddenly appear only afterwards.
extremely annoying to say the least.
even did a factory reset to try changing it but still the same.

is this a common problem?
maybe a sim card problem?

Had that same issue (M7) even after deleting all old text messages. Not quite a five second delay, but significant and annoying
Saw this thread, saw that Textra was a very highly rated app, downloaded it.

yes!
it's a different ball game.
especially the pop up window for replying.
simple and fluid. wish i put it a year ago
