Why does it take so long for Gmail just to send one pic from my phone?

Whenever I send a pic from my phone to gmail it seems to take about ten minutes? I've tried using the smallest resolution on the pictures and it doesn't make a difference? Any suggestions? Thanks

Check your upload speeds using the speedtest app. Once you see how craptacular they are, you will know why it takes so long. Most, if not all, ISP's have much faster downloads then uploads. On my Comcast, I have 20mb downloads with 4mb up.

On the Evo, I got 4.4mb down and 1.2mp up on 4G (test towers running half power)
On 3g, I normally get about 1mb down and 500-700k up. When the signal is bad, the upload suffers big time.

I think it's something other than the slow upload speeds. Even if I have my wifi on it has been taking close to ten minutes just for one pic to show up and now I've noticed that it also randomly says "loading conversations" on my email screen.

Ah, you're lucky. I sent a couple and it took 30 min. I didn't bother checking the speed. Wasn't on wi-fi, just 3G. On the back camera so know the file size was big.

Hello! This is a message from the FUTURE...future...future...future...*echoes into silence*...

I know that 700k is a slow upload speed. It is slow by today's standards aND certainly that was the case even five years ago...

But even at 700k upload speeds, that's 700k PER SECOND.

That means (not accounting for other data traffic variables muGLOYflaven!) that your
typical 500kb JPEG image should take about .8 seconds to upload.

Because here we are in the present day, five years after this thread was long forgotten, and it STILL takes forever and a day to upload images to myself to Gmail via my Galaxy S5a. That's with 80 down/20 up. Which means, in black and white terms, that my 1mb JPEG should take .05 seconds to upload. In fact, I sent it before I signed up to this forum and began writing this post...

I've chosen this thread to resurrect because it appears at the head of Google search results for the query, if you were wondering.

Both of you misunderstand what the OP is asking.

As you can see by the top of my screen, I constantly monitor all of my network activity with a status var utility. I can see files being ULed and DLed in real time.

When we send a picture from Google Photos, there is a delay, sometimes from 10 -30 minutes regardless of your network speed. *Other* apps causing traffic such as checking for updates, DLing from Play Store work fine.

The issue is that sometimes when you select to share a picture via Gmail, the picture just sits on the phone and does not begin to be sent at all until it feels like it -sometimes for 10 minutes, up to 30 minutes. When it fina;;y decides to send it, it gets sent at normal, quick speeds.

Why is there this annoying delay before the picture gets sent is what we're asking.

This problem the OP and I taklking about has *nothing* to do with connectivity or speed. There is a *delay* sometimes of 10 to 30 minutes before the picture is even begun to be sent.
