Why does LG Flash Tool give me an error saying 'could not connect to server try again later' ?

I went ahead and attempted to flash my LG with the LG flash tool, and stuck to making sure I did everything exactly right. I even used a newly purchased USB cord. However, Flash Tool still gives a 'could not connect to server try again later' error along with something about the correct info being unable to be found. I've read that superlong micro USB cables make a weaker connection between PC and device- could this be what happened even though the cable is new? How can I fix this error?

LG exited the mobile device business several years ago. Is it possible the tool is trying to connect to a server over the internet but that server no longer exists? At some point, the company will cease to maintain the infrastructure that supported devices they haven't sold in years as it doesn't make financial sense to maintain the infrastructure.
