Why Does My 3G Suck?

I've seen so many people talking about how they get 1-2mb download on Sprints 3G service. I only get 53kbps Download and 7kbps Upload. I was thinking of switching to Verizon, because they actually have 4G where I live.

Besides that does anyone know why my 3G sucks?

I'm in the New Orleans area.

(I have an EVO)

Those speeds are on a 4 bar connection, I don't want to imagine what I would get on a 1 bar...

Good choice... What good is a phone without service? The 3g is good but 4g is amazing. Get the razr or nexus when they come out :-)

LOL welcome to sprint. I am in the same boat. I work about 30 miles away from where I live and I get around 1mb over there and at home I get the same speeds as you. Let me tell you its not even my house, all around the city I get crappy speeds, either people are just stupid and don't complain or there are not many subscribers in your or my area and the equipement and the towers are probably ancient in our area.

If this doesn't improve, I would rather have 2gb limited data then not have data at all.

Anyone else know why Sprint sucks? I wanted to go to verizon but the price for 4 lines is too much (For Not Even Choosing Unlimited Txting or Phone Calls)

I think it's less 'Sprint sucks' and more 'Sprint sucks where you live.' Some people on this board have spoken about great data speeds on sprint (I myself can't complain), but it all depends on where you are. It seems like Sprints signal isn't as strong as some of the other carriers.

I live in Dallas, TX, and I have at least 3-4 bars of 3G everywhere I go (and I generally can find 4G wimax connections) , with rather fast speeds. However, if I go too far out of town (east, usually - i have family in Louisiana), i start losing signal. So I would understand how Sprint wouldn't be a wise choice for people in certain areas.

Like another poster said, what good is a great phone with no coverage? Maybe you should find a carrier with a stronger signal where you live and switch.

There are no official answer to why 3G sucks. Officially, what I have to say to you is, by the ending of 2013(which isn't really that far), Sprint 3G & 4G will be better than their competitors.

I have been with sprint for 13 years and I can tell you for a fact that sprint will never change. All you have to do is a google search to see that people have been saying that sprint will be better next year for the last decade. They won't be. If you live in a major meto area then you stand a 50/50 shot at good service. If you live anyplace else sprint isn't worried about you. As much as I don't want to pay for vzw overpriced plan I will be leaving sprint for them on Friday. At least then I will be able to use my smartphone anyplace I need to.

Agreed I will be leaving also, only I have to wait a year...ugh...On a good note though, I called Sprint customer service today and got the $10 premium data fee waived for this month.. What an experience that was. After about 2 hours they credited my account $20 because I have 2 phones that require this $10 charge. Let me tell you guys this was not fun. I had to call twice, the first time they only credited my account $10 when I specifically told them it should be $20 because of the 2 phones. The second time took longer because they weren't going apply the credit for the second phone... makes no sense to me 2+2 still equals 4 doesn't it. I had to talk to an employee first, then the manager, and then somebody above the manager. I told them, "I have no problem paying the fee because that is what the contract said when I signed it, so until I get my (premium data speeds back) and my phone is usable outside of wifi, I will be calling you back every month to get this waived." He ended it with I can not guarantee that it will be waived next month. I guess we will see what happens.

Bad reception could be a bad Receiver.
I've been having trouble maintaining 3G, and had to keep restating the Data Network to get it to work. Took the phone to Sprint and asked them to test it. Results:" Failed Sensitivity test in RF output on CH 600." Working with my insurance now for a fix or replace.

I'm partial becuase I live in a good 4G coverage area (Philadelphia) and regualrly get 5MB down which is good enough for me to download podcasts in minutes and stream Netflix at the gym. I'll never leave Sprint as long as they provide these reasonable speeds (Slower than VZ, i know) and unlimited data.

Ok, but why is it that if I have full bars and 3G I can pull only 10-25 on a download in my town, but 1000 or so in other towns? Is there different qualitly of 3g towers. Since I live in a small town they only give us a low speed 3g tower?

I don’t worry so much about my 3g service. I’m more concerned with why I don’t have 4g yet and that I’m paying for “premium data” but only getting standard data.

Sprint's 3G sucks for about 80% of people. Sprint gets the most complaints about data speeds. I rarely hear people complaining about T-Mobile and At&t speeds...Verizon a little more. I know I know... there's always that one person.

But I used to be in love with Sprint. Then around August/September, there 3G network just fell apart. I used to get around 2.5mbps and now I get about 300kbps. It drives me crazy. Something is actually wrong with their network. I stream Google Music as my main music, and it can barely load a song on 3G.

So you'd think I'd just turn on 4G? 4G is spotty as hell. When I get it, it's fast (5mbps - 8mbps), but move 2 feet and you lose it.

I'm really thinking about going to T-Mobile when/if they get the Galaxy Nexus. Yea T-Mobile throttles your data after awhile, but I'll be used to it since their throttled speeds are faster than Sprint's normal speeds.
