Why does my Amazon stick keep asking me if I want to shut down?

For no reason my amazon firestick keeps suddenly showing a box asking whether I want to shut down - with simply yes or no - I have tried to navigate to the box but the controls don't work like they do navigating to apps. I have to turn off the TV and start it again to get rid of the box - any suggestions please would be much appreciated! I have looked at the Amazon official tips - but nothing on there about this problem. Thank you!
