Why does my bluetooth headphones not work with my gear S2?

For some reason, when I unpair my headphones from my phone to pair with my watch, my watch indicates that the headphones are paired, but no sound comes out of the headphones (and no sound comes from the watch to indicate that the headphones have been paired). However, the headphones indicate that it's still in "waiting to pair" stage based on the type of blinking lights on the headphones.
The only way I can seem to fix this is by turning off/on the watch and then it works fine, but I don't want to keep on turning the watch off/on every single time I want the pairing to work. Has anyone else come across this issue? Thanks.
