Brand new LG G3 shuts off at 100% battery

Hello,
I bought an LG G3 from Amazon yesterday. Turned it on and the battery was already at 100%. All day yesterday the battery still read 100%. I plugged it in at night and instantly received a pop-up that said that the phone finished charging and to unplug it. I left it unplugged all night and earlier today, despite reading that battery was still at 100%, the phone turned off. I plugged it in and the battery icon showed that the battery was at 0%. After no more than 30 seconds, however, it went back to 100%. Unplugged again- turned off. With a repeat of the previous scenario. Obviously, my phone is unable to report the actual battery level. I'm wondering if this is a hardware or software issue and is it the battery or the phone. Thank you very much for your help!

You can try to do a factory reset and see if it happens again. That fixes any software issue.. If it happens again than you know it is a hardware ..

Do you have access to a spare g3 battery? Test with that. Likely a bad battery. If not then defective g3. But try a factory reset first since it's fast and easy to do.

Edit I doubt a factory reset will make a difference, but you never know...
