Why does my G3 flash go off randomly when not taking pictures?
May have started with new Android update (Verizon G3 device).

I'll bet it goes off when you get a call or notification. This answer has been posted many times:

Go to Settings / My Device / Acessibility. Down at the bottom, if "Flash Blink" is checked, uncheck it. If it's unchecked already, then check it, and uncheck it again. In a few cases, people have had to check it, reboot, and then uncheck it.
